Sandy 3.0 Gouraud shading

Monday, November 12th, 2007 by kiroukou :: Must see, Project, demos, en :: No Comments

Here we are! Now we have a new Material Attribute object, the GouraudAttribute.

Basically this attribute brings some gouraud shading to your objects.

This little demo shows you the simplicity required to obtain that result.

Oh I almost forgot to say that the source code is attached to the demo, right under the swf :)

Important: This new GouraudAttribute isn’t available in the official 3.0 package, but in the SVN trunk!

Update: The effect has been improved a bit, so screenshot, demo and svn are updated.

Papervision 1.5 official release

Friday, July 20th, 2007 by kiroukou :: Must see :: No Comments

While I’m quietly developing the AS3 version of Sandy, the papervision team offers the first real official release of their library : Papervision 3D 1.5

This engine is really efficient and with the latest improvment, becomes certainly faster than Away3D which complex architecture and wonderful features make it a bit slower.

I also recommend to anybody interessted in 3D in Flash to test Away3D which has some exclusive features, such as an improved Z sorting.

For now, have fun playing with Papervision 3D 1.5

SWFZ demo 2 - Impressive

After the dino demo, the multi material demo, Jono presents an amazing demo that would impress anyone reading this post who might be interessted in 3D in Flash ;)

Hope you’ll appreciate the work as much as I do. For those who know Irrlitch, they provide a demo inside a similar environment. Sure scan line and Z-buffer doesn not allow the fullscreen animation you may have seen with Papervision, but for sure it will change it the future if Adobe’s provide us an hardware access, like shaders as they promised to think about it ;)

Great work!

Vds-communication.com - The new Sandy engine official demo!

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006 by kiroukou :: General, Must see, en :: 2 Comments

Seraf and his french communication company are celebrating their brand new website, and guess what? They did a Sandy 3D interactive interface!

More than a company website, this is also the official Sandy’s technical demo. It is perfectly illustrating the power of Sandy and 3D in Flash in general.

Just a small technical word about this demonstration, it is 100% Sandy. I mean this is not an animation exported from a 3D modelisation software, but a real and perfect use of Sandy’s API. Hope you’ll appreciate the artistic work !

Don’t forget to play with the left/right keys of your keyboard to fully appreciate the real time 3D power.

You’ll appreciate the loading time and environment interactivity that real time 3D brings compared to exported 3D animations.

eventagentur.ch :: a website with 3D room interface

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006 by kiroukou :: General, Must see, en :: 5 Comments

allink a member of the forum has presented his last realization, the website eventagentur.ch
The interface is based on a 3D room and the mouse allows you to interact with the environment.

And of course, the 3D part has been realized with Sandy :)

This is the first time, as far as I know, that Sandy is used in an website interface. And I must say that I really like it! I’m quite satisfied to see Sandy used and being efficient in this kind of project.

A little word from the author :

Some facts and figures:

-All the content can be edited by the client himself with our cms
- The browsers forward and backward button work inside the page (on all browsers exept Safari)
- Content can be bookmarked
- The Site supports deeplinking for example this link http://www.eventagentur.ch/?do=page&pageID=276&langID=19 takes you directly to the clients page
- The links mentioned above get indexed by search engines, making this the first 3D room searchable by google

The client is satisfied, I am, what else ? :)

PS: Do not hesitate to show me what you’ve done with Sandy or Distortimage btw.
