Private BETA Tests before launching the 0.2 release.

January 12th, 2006 by Kiroukou :: en :: RSS 2.0

Hi all.

I’ve spend my day to prepare Sandy for the next release. I’ve done a lot of changes I’d say! I don’t want to do teasing, so no more information before the official release ;)

The thing is, I am alone to do the 0.2 development. I’ve done a lot of modifications, and I’ll need soon to make full tests to be sure they are not any bugs.

But I can’t do the tests correctly and finish the development alone. It will took to much time. Thus, having new and fresh eyes as testers would be better to know what’s wrong, and where are the points that should be explained.

So I’ve decided to ask some help for BETA tests. As I can’t manage a lot of feedbacks (don’t have a lot of free time), it will be a private BETA tests ( around 10 people max).
The tasks are :

  • realize some tests with Sandy (defined by myself at the beginning, then yours),
  • complete the documentation where we should add some comments or example of use,
  • write some short tutorials. I’ll help on everything for sure :)

I know some of you want to help for Sandy development (and thanks) so it can be a good idea to start with those tests.

The release is planned at the end of the month, so we will have 2 weeks of testing! Consequently BETA testers must be available about 5 hours a week to do efficient tests.

If you are interessted, please leave a comment with your availabilities, and with your email adress.
Thanks in advance
Thomas aka Kiroukou

Hi Cornel. Well it depends what do you mean by noob ^^
The idea with Sandy was to make an API easy to learn, and smart enougth to be able to do advanced thing.

So if you are able to create some classes in AS2, and if you are able to see if a function is doing exactly what was expected, sure you can be helpful :)

If your are still motivated, please contact me with the contact label in the menu on the right.

    Hi Cornel,

What’s your level in AS ? We think that it can be intersting if we have some people who are not skilled in 3D, but if you don’t understand AS it will be a little bit hard ;)
But when anyone checks the documentation and see errors, tell us ^^

Understand AS? Well, i’m not that much of a n00b, i’ve already played a bit with sandy 1.0. If you have too much offers, it’s ok, i can wait ’til sandy 2 release. The idea was to give it a try, and while learning, i would be able to make suggestions, share my experience etc. btw, how much sandy2 beta is different from the last sandy available on svn?

    cheers

oops, i was talking about 0.1 and 0.2 in the previous post, of course :)

Well I think it can be an excellent idea :)
Thecaptain will contact you to give you the access links.
The new version will not be very different in the API. Only few changes. But inside it’s nearly totally different ;)

I can do 5 hrs per week of beta testing. I don’t have a lot of experience in ActionScript, but I have a lot of JavaScript and Visual Basic.NET experience. I also have some experience with Lingo scripting in Director. I know the Flash environment quite well, having played in Flash for several years. Most of my issues with ActionScript are with nitty gritty things like syntax, and I’m rapidly getting used to those things as I go along.
